TriPython August 2016 Meeting: Django & REST API Code-Along

Ever wanted to learn more about Django? Django is a high-level Python Web framework that makes it easier to build better Web apps more quickly and with less code. Do you want to know more? Want to check out that snazzy built-in Admin interface that comes standard with Django? Learn how to migrate a Django model? How about building a REST API from the ground up using Django views? Then bring your gear and code-along with us as we cover these topics and others of interest. We will build a simple working project for Inventory Management and you can take it home to continue learning. If you’re still confused or just want to learn more than the basics, we will have a general Q&A at the end. Let’s Django! Our presenters are Kenny Yarboro and Alyssa Andrews. Kenny holds a Master of Computer Science and B.S. in Computer Science degree from North Carolina State University. He has over 8 years of software industry experience spanning web services, automation, product development, and product support. His current focus is building self-service automation for IT request fulfillment. Kenny has previously given presentations at DjangoCon 2014 & 2015 and PyCon 2015. Alyssa is currently pursuing a B.S. degree in Computer Science from North Carolina State University and will graduate May of 2017. She has worked two internships, one with IBM and one with SAS, over her summers since her freshman year. Her skill sets include Python, Django, Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and she currently works alongside a team whose goal is self-service automation throughout IT at SAS. Extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration are also welcome and don't need to be pre-announced. Plenty of free after hours parking is available in the upper level of the deck behind WebAssign (turn through the median just before the intersection of Varsity and Main Campus Drives). If the door is locked, call the number posted on the door. An after-meeting location for food and beverage will be decided at the meeting (usually BaDa Wings for the Thursday night draught specials).

TriPython July 2016 Meeting: TensorFlow Implementation for Job Market Classification

Matching new job titles and descriptions to existing salary data points from labor markets is a time-intensive and manual process, but is necessary to create compensation plans and job offers. This presentation introduces a TensorFlow implementation of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNNs) to classify jobs. We will start with a high level overview of TensorFlow, CNNs, and how to get started. We'll then walk through our system design, code samples and a demonstration of our application. Taras Mitran and Jeff Waller present. Taras and Jeff are software engineers at IVC, Inc. in Cary. Extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration are also welcome and don't need to be pre-announced. Lightning talks are for you to "show and tell" something you've learned about Python recently, no matter how small. We all use Python, therefore, we are always learning something new about Python that we can tell others. Plenty of free parking is available in the RENCI parking deck. The meeting will be followed by our usual after-meeting at a nearby tavern for food and beverage. Come join us for a fun and informative evening.

TriPython June 2016 Meeting: Is your refrigerator running Python? MicroPython - A Python implementation running on bare metal

MicroPython is optimized to run fast and lean without the need for an underlying operating system. Damien George spearheaded the development of MicroPython with a Kickstarter Campaign funded in 2014. This talk will cover a brief history of MicroPython, optimal use cases, current packages, future development and a short 'hello world' level demo of MicroPython running on an ESP8266 WiFi enabled Microprocessor. Greg Frazier presents. Greg is a Business Analyst with a past in electronics development and semiconductor testing. Greg is new to Python and coding in general. Extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration are also welcome and don't need to be pre-announced. This will be our first meeting in our new Durham location, Iron Yard Durham, which is the American Tobacco Underground downtown. There is free parking in the American Tobacco South Deck at 705 Willard Street. Because there is a Durham Bulls home game at the same time, you will need to tell the parking attendant that you are attending a meeting in the American Tobacco complex in order to avoid a $5 charge. The meeting will be followed by our usual after-meeting at a nearby tavern for food and beverage. Come join us for a fun and informative evening.
