TriPython August 2015 Meeting: Data Analysis With Pandas

Melodie Moorefield-Wilson, an analyst for a financial software company, will share the power of the Pandas package for fast and easy financial data analysis in Python. Extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration are also welcome and don't need to be pre-announced. Plenty of free after hours parking is available in the upper level of the deck behind WebAssign (turn through the median just before the intersection of Varsity and Main Campus Drives). If the door is locked, call the number posted on the door. An after-meeting location for food and beverage will be decided at the meeting (usually BaDa Wings for the Thursday night draught specials).

TriPython July 2015 Meeting: PySpark for In-Memory Data Analytics

Chad Vawter, Senior Software Engineer at MetLife, will give an overview of PySpark, the Python interface to Spark, the lightning fast replacement for Hadoop. Extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration are also welcome and don't need to be pre-announced. Plenty of free parking is available in the RENCI parking deck. The after-meeting will take place at Bailey's in Ram's Plaza behind RENCI. Come join us for a fun and informative evening.

Python Beginner’s Night

Drop in between 6pm - 8pm on first Mondays at Astro Code School and start down the road to learning Python. Receive help installing Python and a text editor on your computer. Ask expert volunteers questions about Python and programming in general. This will be a lab style meeting without a regular presentation. Python Beginner’s Night is free and all are welcome. If you already know a thing or two about Python please attend and help others. Astro Code School is in Downtown Durham on Morris Street next door to the Durham Arts Council building. Parking is available on Morris Street across Morgan Street at the parking deck and some further down on the street.

TriPython June 2015 Meeting: Tornado

Bespoke web designer Dave Masog will present Tornado, the limitlessly scalable asynchronous web framework powering Facebook and IPython Notebook. Dave will demonstrate an Angular/Tornado/MongoDB application and discuss why you would use Tornado instead of NodeJS. Lightning talks, 5 to 10 minutes extemporaneous expositions on a topic of interest to you, something you recently learned, kind of like a show and tell, are always welcome as well. Please see the parking instructions on the BCC website. A wide variety of possibilities for the after-meeting are within steps of BCC.

Python Beginner’s Night

TriPython May 2015 Meeting: Deploying Python Applications with HTTPD

We are very lucky this month to hear from Jeff Trawick, a 15-year Apache committer veteran, who will share his expertise concerning the different ways Python applications may be deployed on httpd, the pros and cons of the various techniques, and recommendations for how to deploy applications generated with common Python web frameworks.
