Raleigh Project Night

Raleigh Project Night meets on first Tuesdays. Have a project you want to show off, share, seek help with, or just get some work done surrounded by like minded Python lovers? Join us for our monthly project night and do just that! Don't have something to work on? Just need some help with Python? Show up and enjoy the energy, sprint on an open source project, find something interesting to contribute to or be inspired by! The setting is informal and there is no schedule, so don't worry if you show up past the start time. Whether you are a Python newbie needing help or have an open source project you want to share, come hang out and hack. Plenty of free after hours parking is available in the upper level of the deck behind WebAssign (turn through the median just before the intersection of Varsity and Main Campus Drives). If the door is locked, call the number posted on the door.

TriPython July 2016 Meeting: TensorFlow Implementation for Job Market Classification

Matching new job titles and descriptions to existing salary data points from labor markets is a time-intensive and manual process, but is necessary to create compensation plans and job offers. This presentation introduces a TensorFlow implementation of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNNs) to classify jobs. We will start with a high level overview of TensorFlow, CNNs, and how to get started. We'll then walk through our system design, code samples and a demonstration of our application. Taras Mitran and Jeff Waller present. Taras and Jeff are software engineers at IVC, Inc. in Cary. Extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration are also welcome and don't need to be pre-announced. Lightning talks are for you to "show and tell" something you've learned about Python recently, no matter how small. We all use Python, therefore, we are always learning something new about Python that we can tell others. Plenty of free parking is available in the RENCI parking deck. The meeting will be followed by our usual after-meeting at a nearby tavern for food and beverage. Come join us for a fun and informative evening.

TriPython June 2016 Meeting: Is your refrigerator running Python? MicroPython - A Python implementation running on bare metal

MicroPython is optimized to run fast and lean without the need for an underlying operating system. Damien George spearheaded the development of MicroPython with a Kickstarter Campaign funded in 2014. This talk will cover a brief history of MicroPython, optimal use cases, current packages, future development and a short 'hello world' level demo of MicroPython running on an ESP8266 WiFi enabled Microprocessor. Greg Frazier presents. Greg is a Business Analyst with a past in electronics development and semiconductor testing. Greg is new to Python and coding in general. Extemporaneous "lightning talks" of 5-10 minute duration are also welcome and don't need to be pre-announced. This will be our first meeting in our new Durham location, Iron Yard Durham, which is the American Tobacco Underground downtown. There is free parking in the American Tobacco South Deck at 705 Willard Street. Because there is a Durham Bulls home game at the same time, you will need to tell the parking attendant that you are attending a meeting in the American Tobacco complex in order to avoid a $5 charge. The meeting will be followed by our usual after-meeting at a nearby tavern for food and beverage. Come join us for a fun and informative evening.
