Plone Bootcamp covers everything you need to know to use, customize, and develop Plone sites.

This course focuses on moving you from someone with little or no Plone skills to:

  • Understanding Plone's advanced features
  • Customizing the look and feel of a Plone site
  • Writing new templates and scripts
  • Developing new content types in Archetypes
  • Using best practices in development (debugging, testing, etc.)

Day One

  • Installing Plone
  • Using advanced Plone features (Smart Folders, syndication, etc.)
  • Customizing Plone's features
  • Installing add-on products for Plone

Day Two

  • Creating new content types with Archetypes
  • Using ArchGenXML to design content types visually
  • Customizing your content type appearance and functionality
  • Building new templates using Zope Page Templates

Day Three

  • Understanding acquisition and "in-place customization"
  • Customizing the look and feel of your site with CSS and HTML

Day Four

  • Writing Python scripts in Plone
  • Building forms and applications in Plone
  • Managing users and workflow
  • Writing new Plone products

Day Five

  • Using Plone with relational databases
  • Debugging Plone (ZODB shell and WingIDE)
  • Looking to the future: Zope 3 technologies and Five
  • Customizing Plone's workflow and security
  • Best practices for development and deployment
